Purging personal data

We used to sync home address for our employees. The sync has stopped, but now I need to purge "work address" and "home address" from all users. Any way to do this in bulk?

Test with one user to verify,
gam info user us...@domain.com fields address quick
gam update user us...@domain.com address clear
gam info user us...@domain.com fields address quick
If that's what you want:
gam update users all users address clear

I made two passes of the `gam update users all users address clear` command, and it removed most of the addresses, but not all. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason why it removed some but not all.
Maybe 30-40 manual changes is better than 100+, but I'm also interested in figuring out what went wrong. Any ideas? Logs?
