Not sure if this can be (or should be) changed...
gam whatis <email_address>
This should print out
<email address> is a user
<email address> is a group
<email address> is an alias to user <user email address>
<email address> is an alias to group <group email address>
The command does do this, sort of... it spits out what it is not, until it hits a match, then also gives you info on that match... for me, this is TMI.... if I had the shorter form, I could script a response.

It prints also prints the below if the entry doesn't exist.
ERROR: 404: Resource Not Found: userKey - userNotFound

Here is what Advanced GAM does:
$ gam whatis testuser1 noinfo
User: test...@rdschool.org
$ echo $?
20
$ gam whatis testuser1alias noinfo
User Alias: testuse...@rdschool.org
$ echo $?
21
$ gam whatis testgroup noinfo
Group: test...@rdschool.org
$ echo $?
22
$ gam whatis testgroupalias noinfo
Group Alias: testgro...@rdschool.org
$ echo $?
23
$ gam whatis nobody noinfo
Email Address: nob...@rdschool.org, Does not exist
$ echo $?
59

Thank you. This is closer to what I need... but NOINFO does not provide ENOUGH INFO!
Choose a Group email address
command: gam whatis gr...@domain.com noinfo
result:
Group: gr...@domain.com
Choose an Alias to a Group email address
command: gam whatis gr...@alias.domain.com
result:
Group Alias: gr...@alias.domain.com
Choose an email account
command: gam whatis user...@domain.com
result:
User: user...@domain.com
Choose an alias to an email account
command: gam whatis user...@alias.domain.com
result:
User Alias: user...@alias.domain.com
While the noinfo does return a short response. It does not give me the information needed, like if an alias, what is it on.
noinfo really does mean noinfo, eh? Is there a someinfo option?

$ gam whatis testuser1 noinfo

$ gam whatis testuser1alias noinfo

$ gam whatis testgroup noinfo

$ gam whatis testgroupalias noinfo
