I have 200+ ChromeBoxes connected to a 65" ViewBoard. They are currently set to “Never show user names and photos”, this causes teachers to have to perform the 2sv dance every time they sign out or the device is restarted. I would like to change the setting to “Always show users names and photos” which will eliminate the 2sv dance. However, during my tests I found that there are local accounts on some of the devices for people no longer working in the district and even one that recently passed away.Is there a command that I could run that would remove all local accounts that would not require me to nuke the devices? Or even better compare the users found to my active users and only remove the non-active users? Since the users are already used to having to type in their email and password each time, removing all of the local data would be acceptable.Thoughts?

It looks like this command

gam issuecommand cros "query:orgunitpath:'/Classroom Chromebox/GHS - Test'" command wipe_users doit

successfully removes all accounts on the device in my test OU. Debating if it would be worth my time to figure out how to have it query a list users from a csv or based on user status and only removed suspended or non-existent users.

Hey Ross,

As usual I am probably not explaining myself very well. It looks like that command would be used to change the setting to show the user names. Which is helpful, however, my issue is that if/when I use that command or enable that setting from within the Google Admin Console, all previous user names will appear on the sign-in window. Which in itself is expected and not a big deal. However, since these devices have been deployed for almost three years many of them are going to have user names that are no longer active and in our 6th grade wing we lost a teacher to Covid in 2021 and I am certain her name will appear on many of these devices and that may disturb some students or teachers. So I was hoping for a way to either leave only users that have currently active accounts and delete all others, or delete any users listed in a cvs file, or using some other selective process.  In the end removing all user names and photos before making the switch would probably work.

I hope that makes sense.

I think you are best off wiping all of them like Roo suggested, just to keep things clean.

You could target devices that was used by your teacher that passed.
gam issuecommand cros query tea...@acme.com command wipe_users doit
