I have been looking into this and struggling to remove/delete/trash files shared with users from an address outside the domain.

Using GAM you get an error eg  "Trash Failed: The user does not have sufficient permissions for this file." This makes sense as there is not a domain owner to perform the command.

However in My Drive there is an option to "Remove" with a 'Bin' icon which will "remove the file from view" so the user cannot now see the file.

Is it possible to acheive this with GAM?

Cheers

James

James,

There is no API support to do this, thus GAM can't help.

I had a support call with Google two weeks ago about this very problem. Scenario: us...@DomainA.com's accounts gets compromised. The account is then used to sent malicious Google Drive files to anyone in us...@DomainA.com's contact list. If these users allow sharing from outside the domain, there's nothing that domain admins can do to remove these files en masse. They stay in each user's Google Drive in perpetuity unless each user removes the file individually. It's absolutely insane.

Google Support's best recommendation is to disable external sharing.
