Using GAM for Login History

I am using GAM for a lot of auditing, I have been using it to obtain login history recently. I am noticing that its not real time it seems to be an hour or two behind? 

Is there a way to make this more real time? I am running this command on a cron and having it overwrite each time since appending would result in a huge log file. Also is running this regularly not a great idea? 

Any info would be awesome. I am running on the latest version of GAM also.
