Hi, the app is great, but I'm constantly getting this error for specific files:

Downloading Google Doc: <filename> to /Volumes/.../<filename>.xlsx
Format (xlsx) not available
ERROR: Format (microsoft) not available

This happens for different file types (not only excel), but always the same, is persistent and affects 5-10% of files.
Commands I used (no mather which I use, effect is the same):
gam user <username> get drivefile query "'me' in owners" targetfolder <path> format microsoft
gam user <username> get drivefile query "'me' in owners" targetfolder <path> format openoffice
gam user <username> get drivefile query "'me' in owners" targetfolder <path>

Any ideas what can be the problem?

Using drive.google.com are you able to export the file to those formats?

Do you have a sample doc you can make public or share with Ross and I that exhibit this behavior?

Hey,

Unfortunatelly all those documents I've checked is corporate data, so I can not.
I'll try to crawl through those I did not check yet and upload something.

Your tesis for now is that something is specific about the docs, right?

Hi Ross,

I do have at least 150 of them.

To build up the background a bit:
We are making migration from G-Suite to O365 for the whole company (1700 users+)
Since we have almost 300 suspended (de-provisioned) users, which we do not want to migrate (due to license cost...), but have to store their data for a year, GAM was a natural choice.
After archiving 2014 files from 48 users, I got 150+ errors. First idea was that maybe those were shared and in use, when GAM-based script worked. Second time I got errors on the same files.

like I've said I'll find some 'neutral ones' I'm allowed to publish.

Thank you for engagement.

I have the same problem. One thing I have noticed is that I get the error "Format (xlsx) not available" for files own by suspended users. Is it possible to add an argument to include suspended users or do I have to update suspended user (=off) before I run this command ?

Robert,

You can not download files for suspended users, so yes, you'll have to unsuspend the user, download the file and then suspend the user.

Thy !!

My workaround is:
  1. gam print users suspended query "orgUnitPath=/xxx" todrive
  2. Make a bash script to temporally change all suspended users to active users
  3. gam update user x...@domain.xx suspended off
  4. Download files
  5. Run the bash script again to suspend users who previous was suspended (change off to on)
So if it's not possible to DL files from suspended users, maybe it's a good idea to change the error msg?

Here is what Google returns:

$ gam user testuser8 get drivefile id abc123xyz

Robert,

What I showed you is based on making a change to Gam; it was to illustrate that Google doesn't say anything about the user being suspended.

True :)

But "Insufficient permissions for this file" is better when "Format (xxx) not available"

K.Z - Save yourself the trouble and just downgrade the user to Cloud Identity Free licenses. This way the data on the user account remains as it is. You just can't login as that user and access Gmail/Drive/etc.

The data stays in the account and you can add a license back to the user if you need to. All documents that the user owns, that you don't transfer to a new owner for example, remain accessible by any other users that are shared on them.

I talk about this in a bit more detail in my doc.
