Renamed Account in AD but still showing old display name

a user got married and had name change of course.  it was changed in AD.  added the new email address to the account and synced it.  so, google shows everything correct and AD shows everything correct with display name and account.  but when the user sends an email it still shows the old name.  i looked everywhere, adsiedit as well.  i cant find the old display name anywhere.  we originally used Exchange but moved over to Gmail this passed summer.  it baffles me why its not showing new display name.  it uses and shows new email.

It may be happening if you have Create Contacts for Auto-complete turned on in Gmail(Gmail settings > General).  We had a similar issue and found that Gmail looks in your local contact list first and if you had ever sent email to that person prior to the name change, it would always have that prior name listed because they are in the users' local contact list.

Hi Andrew,

Please sign in to the user account or ask the user to do that , then go to manage your google account , go to personal info then change the name over there.

Now go to the admin console and search for the user then go to user information,scroll down to directory sharing and turn it off , try now to look for the user from your account when you compose a message, when you are not able to find the user go back to admin console and turn on the directory sharing for that particular user then try to lookup for that user, after changing the name it may take sometime, check the next day then you should be fine 🙂.
