Are you guys seeing any performance issues with GAM?

I'm trying to update asset IDs for about 100 devices and move them to an OU.  It is running extremely slow.

Also, is GAM 6.xx still supported by Google?

Yes, I’ve been seeing some real slowness this morning (listing members of groups). Google’s APIs must be having some issues.

GAM (regardless of version) is not supported by Google. It’s an open source project led by the incomparable Jay Lee and Ross Scroggs, without whom the Workspace administrators of the world would be in deep trouble.

Hope that helps,

Ian

If you continue to have high latency for using Google APIs (assuming it's not related to your network), you should be able to open a developer support ticket.

I would try to use OAuth 2.0 playground or API explorer to test first though.

And I would recommend you upgrade to GAM7.

FWIW, just chiming in to say that we're also experiencing slowness - seeing extremely high latency for the Admin SDK API (ccc.hosted.frontend.directory.v1.DirectoryUsers.List:Value:8.95min)

Yes. I am seeing issues with GAM right now as well, running 6.xx

GAM7 will offer the best performance and is the only version of GAM currently offering any support here as well as  fixes. It's time to upgrade. Make sure your getting the version from git.io/gam and you can validate that it's official GAM7:

I'm not aware of any API issues currently but will check in with team.

we're on 7, so it's not the gam version that was the issue (for us). normally, `gam print users` takes about a minute and a half to run. today, it took about 12 minutes multiple times. i haven't tried running the process since this morning though. issues started around 6 am pacific and appeared to transiently persist through about 12 pm, give or take.

Ian;

I have experienced some real slow downs when updating groups to the point where I need to ^C, and reenter the command to get it to work.

Yeah, I've been trying to get the members of 184 groups for about 5 hours now (and it's only finished about 70 of them). And I've been waiting for >5 minutes now to add a single member to a group. It's pretty bad...

Google is aware of the issue and actively working on it. If you file a support case about the API issues and slowness please reference "Google internal issue 429147916.

FYI, all, the performance issue is still not resolved as of 8AM PDT.

I just opened our own ticket with Google Support about it, referencing Jay’s. I’d encourage others to do the same—more tickets equals more urgency…..

Cheers,

Ian

I just got an update on my ticket. No ETA on a fix, and no further updates coming until at least 5PM PDT today. SIGH. So much for deadlines....

Looks like things are getting a bit better for me on this issue. Can anyone else confirm?

Thanks,

Yup, this morning, doing a `gam print users` took a little over 2 hours. now we're back down to around a minute and a half.

I can confirm performance has improved.
