Hi Everyone

We use GAM (and a massive thanks to Ross for his ever wonderful help when we have had an issue or something very complicated to do!)

Is their any advantage running GAM in a Google Compute Engine VM against a local install on your own laptop etc, for example if your using move drivefile or claim ownership on large complex file structures?

Kind Regards

Dave

There may be some performance benefit to GCP since everything is running on Google's network as opposed to traveling down to your local WiFi and back.

More important though is the security of each configuration. If you lose your laptop what's to stop someone from grabbing your GAM credentials and having full access to your Workspace admin console AND all user data? Are you encrypting and password protecting that laptop?

Hi Jay

Thanks for the quick response.

Good point about device security most people would not think about this with GAM, our laptops are encrypted plus MFA to even log into the them!

Just setting up a VM now for GAM at Google.

Kind Regards

Dave

Hi David,

I have GAM runniing in GCE and have no issues. I now have it running 24/7 as I have some cron jobs set up, and it costs less than US$15 per month. I started using Cloud Shell but found that 'long commands' would not reach the end before the cloud session timed out, so moved the the Compute Engine.

Cheers

James

Hi David,

I have a g1-small instance running in us-central1-a zone and have Debian installed.
