Are there GAM commands to allow me to add a share to photos in Google Photos? Or see a list of the albums or names in a user's Google Photos?

DEna,

Unfortunately, no.

As Google Photos is a non-Core app, the only control a Workspace Admin has is whether or not to enable/disable the Google Photos service for all users/an OU/an individual. There just aren’t any other controls or admin APIs available.

There is an API out there for Google Photos, but it’s set up where each individual user has to log themselves in so that whatever program can access that user’s Photos. And even then, what can be done is extraordinarily limited—you can’t delete photos, for example.

And yes, that’s pretty annoying for a number of reasons, like not having the ability to move Photos from one employee to their successor at the organization; having to pay for the storage related to Photos usage without having the ability to clean out that storage; and so on. (Grump!)

Cheers,

Ian

Arggh... I will second that.

Ian Crew says:
Having to pay for the storage related to Photos usage without having the ability to clean out that storage

or delete a users Google Photos Storage, the only way probably is to delete the entire account.
I suppose.

It just seems odd to me that with a photos being a workspace app things are so separate that you can't manage it as effectively as Google drive. If it's in workspace it should be work-product.

Dierk:

You are exactly correct, the only two ways to recover the space used by Photos are to either have the user who owns the photos log in and delete them, or to delete the user’s entire account.
