New GAM7 Install question(s)

to GAM for Google Workspace
I have a new laptop and want to install GAM 7. I have VM Gam-ADV-XTD3 and a laptop with GAM:
I've tried to follow some old Google Group question from 2017 on what to do, but want to check what the best route to take is....

I know I need/should copy copy client_secrets.json, oauth2service.json and oauth2.txt over, but then saw something about copying the c:\GAMConfig folder over from the Advanced GAM.
is that the route I should go? copy that GamConfig folder over and then run what?
When do I run gam update project?
Confused about the order of things and what to run when.

Start on the VM machine.
Do:
gam update project
gam oauth create
gam user us...@yourdomain.com update serviceaccount
On the laptop
Copy gam.cfg, client_secrets.json, oauth2service.json and oauth2.txt
from C:\GamConfig on theVM to C:\GamConfig on the laptop.
