We have an automated termination script that, among other things, transfers a terminated user's Drive data to their manager. However, if that user is on litigation hold via Vault, it appears the job doesn't work (which makes logical sense.)

My question is whether there's any way to copy all of a user's Drive data and paste it to their manager's Drive via GAM while leaving it intact in the original Drive? Alternatively, does anyone have any better ideas to get around this limitation?

Thanks in advance for any help!

If you don't want to run afoul of any chain-of-evidence issues in ongoing litigation, best practice is to make a seperate OU container, and stick that account and related data into it, until the hold is removed.  Any games you play with vault or copies could have impact on future litigation.

Right, that's already part of our process for terminated users. Unfortunately, I'm still not sure how to grant access to those users' data to their team while on litigation hold without going through each file one by one.

Hello,

We ran into the same problem. You can run the following command (I think you may need GAMADV-XTD3)  to transfer the data, but be aware it handles the transfer on the GAM side not the Google Side so it can take a while to complete for larger Google Drives.

gam user TerminatedUserEmail transfer drive ManagerEmail nonowner_targetrole current keepuser targetuserfoldername "#username#'s Documents #email#" targetuserorphansfoldername "#username#'s Orphaned Documents"
