If this is out of the scope of what GAM can do, maybe someone knows of a different way to achieve this?

The scenario:  Currently we have settings via the Google Admin console that make the students account on chromebooks logout when the chromebook Lid is closed. We did this, because students were opening websites at home, that are blocked at school, so that when they come to school the website is already open and they can continue using that website even though its blocked at school. However, they have recently discovered that there is a little magnet in the LCD Screen Bezel, that they can remove and the device never realizes the screen is closed because the magnet is missing. Of course we can address this (i.e. consequences per student handbook, etc) when we discover it on a student device, but it does not solve the problem for students that we are not aware of.

So, that brings me to the Question...

Question:  Is there a way through GAM-ADV-XTD (Or some other method you might have discovered or are using) to force chromebooks to reboot at a specified time, or perhaps force all users sessions to be signed out at a specified time?  I am open to other HELPFUL recommendations as well.  I realize that force rebooting devices at a specified time might not actually achieve what I am looking for, if their devices are in fact not on (i.e. lid open and signed in)... but just trying to think through ideas/options.

NOTE:  I kindly ask those that have no helpful advice, to not comment with things like "Mind your own business: , or "Stop trying to control everything students do..." etc, etc.  If I was going to consider those types of options, I wouldnt be posting this question in the first place.  Sorry if that seems harsh, especially since I am asking the community for help, but there have been occasions where people foudn the need to offer only criticism of what I am asking instead of actually offering helpful advice.

Thanks in advance!!

Joe,

There is nothing that any version of GAM can do to help.

Joe, I've heard many student Chromebook stories but the magnet removal is a new one 😀

Are you setting a policy to sleep/logout users after N minutes inactivity?

What about moving the web filtering from the lan in the school direct to the device?

This might provide some ideas for a custom extension. https://github.com/dave-elkan/crontabs
