Hi all

I’ve got a group that automatically includes all users in the organisation, used for all hands notifications etc.

We need to exclude 2 user addresses from this list and I’m trying to work out how best to do this.

You can’t do it in the group settings (as far as I know)
Routing won’t let you discard the message

How do others do this?

Thanks

Would it work to just set those two users to “No email” in the group, or do they need to be fully excluded (so they also don’t get access to stuff shared with the group and calendar invites and such)?

Cheers,

Ian

Thanks Ian, good idea - When adding automagically no users are listed, so you have to add the user specifically to be able to customise settings for them.

We'll see what happens from here !

Hi Duncan,

I had the same requirement for few customers so initially I tired adding  users specifically and then setting “No email” for them, which didn't work for me in the past. Now what I do is, I use a content compliance rule to detect Group's "List-ID:"  in the header field and quarantine  emails for those users which needs the all users emails excluded. You can use a group membership (separate exclusion group) to affect the content compliance rule too, this is useful if you need many users to be excluded from the all users emails. So you can keep on adding users to be excluded to the exclusion group.

Hope this helps,

Pubudu.

Hi Pubudu

Do you have some more information on this?

We have set up a Compliance rule as follows using the Full headers to search for the group ID (I confirmed this match using Email Log Search for the inbound email to the user we are trying to prevent getting the email):

Locally applied

1. Email messages to affect
Internal - Sending
Internal - Receiving

2. Add expressions that describe the content you want to search for in each message
If ALL of the following match the message

Location: Full headers
Contains text: List-ID: <team.xxxxxxxxxxx.com.au>

3. If the above expressions match, do the following
Quarantine the message

A. Address lists
Use address lists to bypass or control application of this setting

Only apply this setting for specific addresses / domains

[List contains the recipient email address]

B. Account types to affect
Users

C. Envelope filter
Nothing selected

However the email still seems to arrive in the users inbox.

Any advice would be great!

Hey Duncan,

B. Account types to affect
Users

You are operating on a group message ?  Try both for kicks.

Hi Duncan,

Here's few screenshots of my configuration,
image.png

2. Add expressions that describe the content you want to search for in each message
If ALL of the following match the message

Location: Full headers
Contains text: List-ID: <team.xxxxxxxxxxx.com.au>

No change here

3. If the above expressions match, do the following
Quarantine the message

A. Address lists
Use address lists to bypass or control application of this setting

Only apply this setting for specific addresses / domains

[List contains the recipient email address]

I'm using a different method here,

Under "Show options" I'm using a "Envelope filter" & Google Group to define my users to affect this compliance rule (probably address lists didn't work for me or something, can't remember the exact reason)

Hope this helps...

Kind regards,
Pubudu.
