ERROR: 400: @UserGroupsMembershipLimitReached The user has reached the limit on groups memberships and cannot be added to this course. - failedPrecondition

I was doing a csv file upload to mass create my Google Classroom for the new year and received the error above.

Just recently I was able to create 400 classes owned by a single account but now once it reached 300+ it gave this error.

I am using a single account to be custodian for all the Google classroom in a work year and I will use different type of account every year eg:(gca2016@*.*.* - googleclassadmin2016 / gca2017@*.*.* - googleclassadmin2017 / gca2018@*.*.* - googleclassadmin2018)

Help pls..

This is expected. There's a hard limit of 2,000 groups any one account can be a member of:

course owners are added to two hidden groups that are associated to the course and used for things like Drive file sharing.

Best practice is to make the real course teacher (there's no way your user is teaching that many courses) the course owner.

Hi Jay,
According to Google support, there's no limit on how many classes a user can create? Look at their reply below:

Hello Muhamad,

Thank you very much for your response. I understand that you create users and each creates around 500 classes, but lately it has been giving an error when they reach class 300. Allow me to share, there is no limit for G Suite accounts to create classes, only personal accounts.
To better review this issue, please provide us the following:
- Screenshot of the error
- User afected
- HAR file of the moment the user tries to create a new class and receives the error.

They say that it is a problem with GAM and that they can't help me with it, would you be able to look at it? Please? My school is very dependant on GAM tools and it's a life saver for us.

Muhamad,

Here are some relevant pages:
Description of limits: https://support.google.com/edu/classroom/answer/6020282 (Click class size limits)
Explanation of how many groups a user can be a member of: https://support.google.com/edu/classroom/answer/6020282 (Click Membership)

How many groups does the creating user belong to?
