User's Google Groups Setting Set to No Mail

I'm running GAMADV-XTD3 6.10.02

We had another first this week. My new HR employee said she was not receiving any emails from the HR group. We double-checked that she was a member of that group. 

Turns out, and I have no idea how, her personal subscription settings for that group were set to "No email". She says that she didn't change any settings in https://groups.google.com/my-groups

Two questions: 
  1. Can GAM tell me if employees are in a group and set to No Email? That would be helpful to know. 
  2. Is there a setting when I add someone to a group that sets them to "Each Email"? I thought that was the default. 
I added her to that HR group using GAM. 

gam update group hr add member first.last

Hi. Sorry to unearth an old thread but a search did not give me what I need.

Is there a way to set the default subscription to "no email" for any new members added? I use a GG to manage some access and have to manually change the subscription to "no email" for all new members.

The is no API/GUI support for this as fas as I know.

I have used the following standard gam command, and it does work.

gam update group <groupEmail> add manager nomail user <userEmail>
gam update group <groupEmail> add member nomail user <userEmail>
