Bug: SMS account verification does not work

I guess I need to join the group of developers left out of Google App
Engine because of an incredibly buggy account verification procedure.
Considering the few hours I spent learning about it, what is happening
is quite disappointing.

I live in the UK and my mobile network provider is listed among the
supported ones, but when I attempt to verify my account I get a:
"Mobile Number or Username" error.

It may be useful to the Googlers to know that I was invited to use
Google App Engine perhaps a couple of months ago, but proceeded to
attempt verification only today. Could this be related to the bug?

Please fix this or find an alternative way for me to get in. My Google

is not working, we ask that you fill out the form listed on this
frequently asked questions page:

http://code.google.com/appengine/kb/sms.html#error
