Day after New Year's Eve my wife went to put child to sleep and I was wonder what to do. Lying in my living room with remote in my hand I have remembered problem with multivalued properties and I thought I could watch that next gen query video relaxed in couch again (third time). I admit that I am a little bit geek in a way what I am doing in my spare time.

So thanks to htpc and youtube I started this video in a few seconds and now relaxed and free of work related problems I noticed something at 14:05. He said "... so we've done that..".

If you have done that six months ago why we don't have it yet ?

Happy New Year, MATijA.

Guess you can't win:

Announce something early and people ask why it's not ready yet.
Don't announce anything, and people ask you why you don't announce anything.

This is tricky stuff, take your time to get it right.  However, an
update on what the progress has been and what our expectations should
be would be very welcome.

Short answer: Working on it, it will be available soon (isn't everything always coming out soon? :-))

Long answer: I actually added support for OR/NOT and SORT to the zigzag framework more than a year ago. However, to have the datastore use it I need to update the query planner to be able plan these types of queries (which turns out to be an Integer Linear Programming problem). I would have had this out a while ago but we've had to focus on reliability issues (the High Replication Datastore being one outcome of this focus, but a lot of behind the scenes work was needed as well). After all what good is a new query planner if you can't actually run the query reliably :-). I am now shifting my focus back to Next Gen Query work and this is the first thing I want to get out the door.

Thanks for the update... very much looking forward to next gen queries
and fixing the exploding index problem. Will allow my code to be much
cleaner.

Hi Alfred and Google Team,

is there any update on the NextGen queries project status? I look at the roadmap (http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/roadmap.html) and do not see it listed there and that gets me worried... (or hopefully is just part of the "getting app engine out of preview" feature).

Thanks,
PK
