Scheduler can be a real mystery...

See attached. Almost zero "active", but 7 instances being billed. Using F4's, Python 2.7, threadsafe: true. Idle Instances set to 1-Automatic.

Surely the scheduler can do better than this? Can anyone explain this?

I assume the answer is no, but just in case, do you have any backup/delete job with the datastore admin?

Can you tell me your app-id, so I'll take a look?

We do use the Datastore Admin backup via cron, but it's not scheduled to start for another 3 hours.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for the info. I think I found the edge case bug on your app(and which doesn't affect almost all of other apps). I've escalated it to the reliability team.

I think you can manually shut down some of your instances for a temporary measure.

Hi Jason,

I put a band-aid on your app, and I hope it will work as expected from now on.

BTW I noticed you have 2 max idle instances settings, which I believe is for saving the cost. Can you set max idle instances to higher value(or automatic) and see how it goes? I think 2 is too low for the access pattern of your app.
