expanding OAuth2 scopes

my users allowed authorization for one 

OAuth2 scope in Gmail account.

Now I want them to accept another authorization for another scope

and from this time on my app to have an access to combined scope.

The question is how to check what scope current credentials have

and to request the new scope if it doesn't.
