SSL for custom domains through Developers Console rather than Google Apps

I'm ready to set up my website to have SSL for a custom domain.  The documentation here and here states that

"This feature will be moving to the Google Developers Console by the end of August 2015."

As it's already well into September, and this isn't done yet, I'm wondering how I should proceed.  Presumably the group responsible is just running a bit behind, but I don't know that for sure.

(The Developers Console doesn't have any place for SSL support that I can find, and its Custom Domain page says "SSL support for custom domains is currently only supported via Google Apps."  And all the instructions still refer to Google Apps.)

1. Is this transition expected in the next week or so?

2. After the transition, will I be able to fully set up and manage my SSL certificate for use with my custom domain through the Developers Console without a Google Apps account?

I don't currently have a Google Apps account for the domain in question (I do for a different domain), and I'd rather not set one up if I don't have to.  But if I'll need to sign up for that either way, I might as well do that now.

3. If I decide I can't afford to wait and do end up setting up a Google Apps account for the domain in question and get everything set up for SSL, presumably everything will transfer over to the Developers Console, right?  So then I would be able to cancel my Google Apps account? (Assuming the answer to (2) is yes.)

4. For my current, non-SSL account, using the Developers Console, I can only see the settings for my custom domains from one account, even though both accounts are set as "Owner" and I can do everything else with both accounts.  The specific page I'm talking about is:

From this account I can see the two listings for custom domains and have the ability to delete them or add more.  From my other account, which I'd rather use to manage this detail, I don't see the two listings, but I do have a button to "Add a Custom Domain."

So my questions for (4) is: Will I have the same issue for SSL support?  Why can I only do this from one of the owner accounts, and is there a way to make it so I can do it from either account?

Thanks,
Darshan

Good question, I had not realized that now even the docs mention it… Let’s hope this is imminent, it has been hinted for years. In just the past year we have heard from Google associates in this group:

Nov 14, 2014: "I hope to have some good news to share here in the not too distant future.”
Aug 17, 2015: "the imminently-to-be-released Custom Domains SSL process”

This has been postponed numerous times, and is now scheduled for Q3. Star this bug report for further updates.

Thanks, both of you.  That catches me up to speed, so now I'm just waiting and hoping along with everyone else, I guess.  It sounds like it's been "anytime now" for a while, but signs point to it being near ready, whatever that means.  I've starred the bug report and read all the comments there.  Here's hoping it's finished soon.

FWIW, I am happy to hear publicly announced timelines for major features, even if the schedules slip. It's nice to know what's being worked on.

Are you saying that one bit of information occasionally is better that no information at all? Maybe.

Having followed this feature for years, I think that what has happened with this feature, is that it started, it stopped, it changed direction, it restarted and we were just given randomly hints here and there with no follow up. Even now in the 11th hour (I hope) with even the documentation having given a date nobody steps up to say what is going on.

I do not think this is the right way to communicate roadmap to one's customers. I would love to be given regular updates (even under NDA) so I can plan better.

The current ETA is "less than two weeks" -- sorry that new date wasn't widely disseminated, you can see it at the end of https://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/issues/detail?id=8528&q=label%3AComponent-CustomDomains&colspec=ID%20Type%20Component%20Status%20Stars%20Summary%20Language%20Priority%20Owner%20Log on the Public Issue Tracker.

Alex, thanks for the update. Although I am very interested in this feature I did not know that it is tracked/updated there. I have now starred the issue to be getting the updates.
