Task dying and not getting Retried, is it possible?

I am hunting a task, from my DB logs I see that it died in the middle of its job
Its last log is after seconds of its execution.
task_age_limit is 14h, so it should be retried after its gone
Its gone but its not retried
Is it possible, a taskqueue job vanishing and not being retried afterwards, although it should?
Maybe if the instance that it resides on dies?
