It'd be nice to have the option of an environment that is less frequently updated but less impacted by issues such as the css problem we experienced a couple months ago.  It's possible that the current stability issue could fit into that class as well - GAE team would know better.  Think "Debian stable" or "FreeBSD stable" - fewer of the latest toys, usually bugfixes only, more solid. Surely some issues only crop up when code is deployed widely, and this would offer an extra level of bug catching before it hits those apps we really, really want up.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for bringing this up. This is something that we've talked about doing. What's really great about this idea is that if we do the work for this, we could also have an "experimental" cluster that doesn't provide an SLA or serving guarantees but provides new features - this would effectively replace the majority of our trusted tester program.

There is a lot of work going into stability this year, and I'm trying to round up some of the recent issues to see if there's something we missed.
