Java 8 was sunsetted a while ago, and support for openjdk11 (which is actually an LTS release) is not yet available in a container by Google.
As I understand in GAE Flexible there was an openjdk11 runtime but it is still beta and unpublished.
Please provide an ETA on this.

Thanks

Hello Paolo,

I was unable to confirm an unpublished OpenJDK11 for the Flex environment in publicly available documentation. I was able to find this instead about that runtime being available in App Engine Standard.

Please let me know if you would like to create a feature request asking for a OpenJDK runtime to be made available in the Flex environment.

Hi Elliott,
I found mentions of the openjdk11 runtime in the repository: https://github.com/GoogleCloudPlatform/openjdk-runtime
It seems that a beta exists but is not yet published in gcr.io/google-appengine/openjdk:11

Yes, I would like to create the feature request, please let me know how to go on.
Thanks

Hello Paolo,

https://github.com/GoogleCloudPlatform/openjdk-runtime mentions that you can choose the Java runtime.

"To select a jdk version, use the runtime_config.jdk field in app.yaml. Supported JDK versions include openjdk8 and openjdk11."

Have you tried this approach?

Hi,
I just tried but it returns an error:
The provided runtime_config.jdk option 'openjdk11' is invalid for JAR deployments. Please use a supported jdk option: ['openjdk8', 'openjdk9']

Moreover, we would prefer using a custom runtime that inherits from the openjdk11 runtime using Docker.

Hello Paolo,

I have made a feature request on your behalf. You may follow the progress there. Please note that there is no ETA nor guarantee that this feature will be implemented but the Cloud App Engine team will have this request prioritized.
