Hi all,

Just wanted to report that at the moment when visiting anything
http://*.appspot.com.* on my ISP (True Internet) I get redirected to
http://58.97.5.29/ict.html which basically means that the government
orfered appspot.com to be blocked because of some censored content
thingy.

Other ISPs are not seeing it yet, but in my experience my ISP is the
fastest to comply with these requests and other ISPs follow within 24
hours. So in 24 hours no app engine app will be available in thailand
via their appspot url.

This is probably related to what's happening in Thailand:

Thanks for letting the groups know. Appspot is probably not the only service being blocked.

So not only do you have to know the ins and outs of the entire App Engine, but you also have to be on top of world events and politics... hope you are getting paid well Ikai! :)

In that whole story, I did not find the words "AppEngine" & "App
Engine" caps and smalls.
Shall I trust that story has anything to do with your conveyed meaning
Akai ?

Right now, I dont trust that Thai blocked appengine though but Baz's
statement

"So not only do you have to know the ins and outs of the entire App
Engine,
but you also have to be on top of world events and politics..." seems
correct.

Still, appspot is blocked at my ISP. I can get thru normally on 1 out
of 10 attempts, the other times I see the leaf at http://58.97.5.29/ict.html
or I see a TCP error from my ISP.

Unsure if other ISPs block it or not.

When attempting to access any officially blocked website like
ustream.tv we are redirected to http://58.97.5.29/www.capothai.org/
(google translate it)

Censorship in Thailand is nothing new... whichever "side" controls the
government blocks information which may be beneficial to the other
"side"..

I am unsure if its actual blockage or that someone at my ISP made a
boo boo, but i am really curious to find out if it was blocked or
not...

But now with these types of concerns came into notice, google probably
needs to put a column in the appengine status page which indicates if
there are any abnormal request shortages from any part of the world.
Probably Developers find it in their admin console and hint their
users.

The article isn't meant to be a source of information about App Engine specifically - just my speculation as to why appspot.com is blocked. When governments block IP ranges, appspot can end up as collateral damage.

We have a tool to show censorship requests by country:

App Engine's status page isn't meant to be a comprehensive list of who can access what. That simply wouldn't scale. While we'll make a best effort to provide access information, ultimately it is the responsibility of business owners to understand that the political climate can dictate what you can and cannot do with regards to the laws and government controls of each nation.
