A Gmail address is a valid Jabber ID, so yes, you should be able to do this. Along the same lines, you can use Google Talk to send and receive XMPP messages to/from your App Engine app.

why do i have such issue:

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Invalid jabber ID: <JID: slo...@gmail.com>
	at com.google.appengine.api.xmpp.XMPPServiceImpl.sendInvitation(XMPPServiceImpl.java:161)

slo...@gmail.com - is a valid GMail id.
