New to API's and need a little help

I hope i am posting this in the correct place.

I. have developed a python program that i sue at home for myself there is nobody else involved. 

One of the functions i want the program to do is to update a Google Sheet with information every time the program runs, this all works within python and i have successfully navigated through the Google API docs to get the API working... BUT i am having issues with the Tokens needed to be refreshed and here is the real issue.

I have 2 questions 

1. How do i simply get my tokens refreshed, as i have followed some Google advice on this and it doesn't work for my application.

2. Do i need all this security to get this to work? yes i understand the issues that are present and why the API access needs to be strictly controlled, but in my case is there an alternative method to gain access from Python to the google sheets
