My reports are no longer completing because of "ScriptError: Exceeded maximum execution time". I have been running the same reports, scheduled daily, in a number of worksheets for the last 6 months without problem. Each worksheet is set up to run between 15 and 50 reports. Since the update yesterday the majority of my reports are taking much longer to run and so are met with this error: ScriptError: Exceeded maximum execution time.

For instance, one worksheet runs the following report for 47 GA views. It did this fine for 6 months, but since yesterday it runs around 14 of them and is then interrupted by the error.

I've tried renaming and deleting the report configuration sheet, and re-installing this add-on, but it still fails at the same point. The same happens whether the report is run manually or scheduled.

Yep - I'm having exactly the same issues.

I have many automated reports using this API and they are all now failing with this error - the GA accounts are part of a Google 360 suite and this is a major pain.

The automated update to this plugin has caused major issues.

I have a meeting with our Google 360 reseller on Friday and I'll report back if there's any news.

I found the problem, with the updates they changed the dimensions and metrics fields, all you need to do is replace the spaces with commas
https://developers.google.com/analytics/solutions/google-analytics-spreadsheet-add-on
in this page search for dimensions metrics if you want to read more

Alas, this isn't the issue - at least for me.

The documentation states that multiple metrics & dimensions can be separated by a comma or new line.

Up until today, I had multiple sheets running with upwards of 150+ report configurations - now none of them work due to this maximum execution time error.

Would be helpful is there was a 'status' or 'log' tab created showing the summarised update status of all defined columns in the report configuration.

I've also had numerous corruptions caused as some of my sheets are close to the 2M cell limit and so the backup of the report configuration couldn't be completed

I'm wondering if this is more of a 'Sheets' issue than a plugin issue, as one of my basic Scripts is also throwing the 'Exceeded maximum execution time' error.

However, as of today ALL of my reports are failing to run as they are all large reports covering multiple views with various segments/filters - adding in Limits and changing the 'Sampling Level' has had no impact. I can see the sheet updating in the background, but it never completes.

Thanks everyone for reporting. I'm aware that several people are seeing this error, but unfortunately it's not clear to me exactly why it's happening. The only substantial change between the previous version of the add-on and the current version is the API that's being used.

It's possible there's an issue with the Sheet's back end, and I'm reaching out to that team to see if anything on that end could explain the errors.

It's also possible that when I updated the add-on the sudden increase in traffic to the new API caused some initial load issues that are going to balance themselves out.

If anyone finds that this stops happening, please let me know as that'll suggest it's not an issue with the add-on itself.

Hi Philip,
All my 100+ reports in multiple spreadhseets ran according to schedule this morning without the Exceeded maximum execution time error. The first time since the update.
I also just managed to run a spreadsheet with 70 reports with no issues. All seems to be back to normal here.
Regards,
Zoltán

Hi,

Glad to hear things are looking better for you.

My reports are still failing – one report updated 108 out of 129 reports and then failed. It seems to have progressed further than yesterday, so hopefully this is a load issue that may improve over the next few days…

Kind regards,

Sean.

Hi,

Thought I'd share an update on progress.

My reports are still taking longer than before and most still timeout with the max execution error.

I've now implemented a work around in my reports that uses the 'Skip Report' setting on the 'Report Configuration' tab.

1. Created a new Tab called 'Update Log'
2. Copied and Paste Transposed Row 2 from the 'Report Configuration' tab in Column A in the 'Update Log' to give me a list of all Reports
3. Created a column to reference the 'last updated' value from the relevant output tab (e.g. =indirect(concatenate("'",$A2,"'!B2"))) - I also created columns to show me the level of sampling
4. Then in for each of the reports on the 'Report Configuration' tab I referenced the 'Last Run On' value from the 'Update Log' tab and if equal to zero set to 'True' (e,g, =if(indirect("'Update Log'!C" & match(B2,'Update Log'!$A:$A,0))=0,"TRUE"))

Obviously you could skip creating the 'Update Log' and reference all of the 'Last Run On' values directly, but having the Log makes it much easier to keep track of update progress.

The above therefore allows you to manually run an update which should then only update reports that failed on the last run.

A lovely feature request for the 'Schedule reports' would be to have an option to 're-run X times' on error setting.

Anyway, hope the above helps you if you're having similar issues.
