"Use Resource Quotas" not always working with Scheduled reports?

I have a report that runs daily 4-5am which is on a GA360 account so am I using the excellent "Use Resource Quotas" feature to avoid getting sampled data.

Except that sometimes I still do get sampled data... Then when I re-run the reports manually they work as expected and the sampling goes away.

This is happening intermittently, not every day.

Thanks

James

This is still happening occasionally - about once a week across 3 different Google Sheets files. Anyone got any thoughts?

Thanks

Hi James

I see the same issue; since a few days even no luck with running the reports manually. @Philip Walton, could this have something to do with quota policies on the project?

Thanks
Joël

Same here - in the last few days it's changed from an intermittent problem to a permanent problem, which can't be worked around by re-running reports and makes my dashboards useless.

We also use DataStudio which is not affected but the Google Sheets is much more convenient for some of our reporting.

I just received a confirmation from Google support about this issue:

In order to help you in the best possible way, I’ve taken this issue to my wider team and upon discussion, they’ve informed me that there is an ongoing technical issue of sampling in GA UI which was confirmed yesterday by our Engineering team and a few of other clients are also affected due to this issue. Hence, we’re seeing sampling in the custom reports by including any date range beyond Oct 14th, 2018.

In order to confirm this, I’ve again taken a look into your GA Account and could confirm that sampling is only visible by including the date range beyond Oct 14th. Having said that, we’re seeing sampled data in API due to the same issue even after using Resource Quota.

As a general information, I’d like to share that there are multiple tables for data processing in GA and one of the data generation pipelines was stuck due to some technical issue and it resulted in blocking the precompute data generation pipeline since Oct 15, 2018. It is this precompute pipeline which processes ad hoc queries. Due to this, API results are also being affected (As API queries also fetch the data in ad -hoc manner).

That said, we’ve already escalated this to our Engineering team for a thorough investigation, and they’re actively working on it on a high priority. As a workaround, we suggest you pulling up the unsampled reports for the analysis in the meantime. Apologies for the inconvenience this may have caused you.

Hi,

I have GA360 and i also use the User Resource Quotas = TRUE and ever since Thursday 18th we have had issues with our reports running.

We keep seeing an error for Empty response Which causes the data not to be populated (see screenshot).

I've also tried to run these manually and also tried the Skip Report to make the report less demanding but we are still seeing an issue.

Is the above issue related?

Regards,
Terry

Hi all,

for me this morning the behavior went back to normal (all reports were returned with resource quota used). Was this just random luck or can you confirm that the behavior is back to normal?

Best

I'm still receiving loads of issues with this "Empty response" issue.

How do i get in contact with Google about this?

Hi James
We're a 360 client and I'm still getting a sampling issue when the report is updated via a scheduled update. It doesn't happen when manually updated.
I took a copy of the google sheet report. Updated it manually. No sampling. Compared it to the original that was updated based on a daily schedule. Sampled with different results.
Will contact google support now to see what the story is

We've been seeing this issue again in the last few days. Not as bad as before because (as you say, Geoff) a manual update tends to fix it.

Hi James
I've been helped by Google Support
Looks like the issue is caused by using today within my reports. Linked to the dynamic nature of the inter day data processing.
If your end date is yesterday looks like even if scheduled daily it says its not sampling.

Thanks Geoff - we already know that avoiding the current day is necessary, but are still seeing this problem.

Today our reports are still sampling even when re-run manually.

Any update on this issue?

We have a lot of scheduled reports and the sampling issue is really impacting our reports as it can lead to very significant differences in the output.

I see this thread is very old, is the problem still there? In my case with GA360 some scheduled reports don't take advantage of "use resource quotas" feature.
Is there a way to fix it or even some work around?
Thanks
