userDefinedValue and the the Custom Variables(CV)

Yes we're working on feature parity between the UI and the API. To
keep track of things, could you open a feature request for the new CV?

The ability to set a variable has been deprecated:
http://code.google.com/apis/analytics/docs/gaJS/gaJSApiBasicConfiguration.html#_gat.GA_Tracker_._setVar

We'll probably wait till that functionality is gone from the
collection and UI reporting before thinking of removing the ability to
request the data through the API.

Thanks for your reply.

Can we get some timings on when will this stop working? We currently
have a project running that uses this feature and we going to
production now, so we won't be changing it at the time.

To be honest, it's hard to say.

Generally you should be moving towards the new custom variables going
forward. These are more powerful and without getting into details
should give you better data.

In our case it's extremely hard, as it involves many parties. We would
like to push the new CV's but ...

Also, at the time we cannot segment profiles using the new CVs(?),
being this a possible solution for now(using profile segmentation
instead of using the API's userDefinedValue). When will this be
possible?

Hi Nick,

Any ETA on when the API to query for custom variables will be
available ? Custom variables are really cool, but without the ability
to query for them via the API, their use is really limited for us.

Hi Nick

Just wondering if this time frame looks more like weeks or months.
We're in the process of quoting for a project that is going to rely on
using custom variables to either filter a profile or segment via the
API. I'm wondering if it's a safe assumption that one of these will
be available in the next few months.
