Recently Google announced custom dimensions and metrics as part of Universal Analytics https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/analyticsjs/custom-dims-mets

Does anybody know will it be possible to query over those custom dimensions and metrics from Core Reporting API (ideally through Query Explorer http://ga-dev-tools.appspot.com/explorer/)

Currently documentation mentions only web reporting interface:

Reporting

After the collection, configuration, and other processing stages of the pipeline are complete, custom dimensions and metrics become available via the web reporting interface.

Custom dimensions and metrics are available in custom reports and available for use with advanced segments. Custom dimensions can also be used as secondary dimensions in standard reports

Is that for time being or permanent approach?

Hello Nick,

When do you plan to add Custom Dimensions & Custom Metrics to the Core Reporting API?

Thanks.

I'd really appreciate knowing the time plan regarding this as well.

Would love a timeline on this...really need access to custom dimensions for a client that relies heavily on them.

Any update or ETA on this? Or maybe you can point on some workaround to get a metrics out of custom report build in web reporting interface? (except manually scrapping web page as it too much hassle)
Thank you

+1 for this - any updates on when custom dimensions might be available in the API?

Custom dimensions and metrics are now available in the Core Reporting API and the Query explorer has also been updated.
We've also added a whole bunch of other data points, see:

I just checked out the query explorer to try using a custom metric but it doesn't like what I entered.  See below.  Any ideas?

Ack! There was an error!

400 : Unknown metric(s): ga:metric10

It looks like you don't have "custom metric 10" defined in GA administration. I tried it now and if I use undefined metric it throws this error. If I define it, it works right.

Oh - so first you need to define it in your GA and THEN it becomes an available metric/dimensions???? Ok - will give this a try and report how that works.
