How to use filters on call to get MetaData API Columns

Hello,

I am using JavaScript and attempting to build a UI from the Metadata API column retrieval function. However I would like to filter out some attributes (just not get them) and then filter out records returned as only if they are marked status == PUBLIC

I am honestly not getting how to do that. Is it possible and if so could someone be so kind as to provide an example. No luck googling it for the last 2 days.

There is no filter functionality so you will have to filter client-side.
