I saw a page not long ago in the google language translation section
where English was translated to Japanese and then an option was
available to see the Romaji for the Japanese. Since then I have
searched for hours and not been able to fine this example again. I
really want to be able to translate English to Japanese/Romaji and
understand the API for doing this.

Thanks for any pointers,
john

Unfortunately, the Transliteration portion of the Language API does not currently support Japanese to English transliteration. You can suggest that Google develop Japanese -> English transliteration on the issue tracker, linked below.

Google supports English to Japanese translation.
I saw a page where not only was the English to Japanese kanji
translation made but that there was ALSO a Romaji transliteration
available from that kanji.
The transliteration was from the Japanese kanji to romaji, not English
to romaji.
I know for a fact that I saw this.. But I can't find it now..
Why o' why didn't I bookmark that page ????? darn it...

I absolutely agree that you can translate to Japanese. I am simply saying that the Transliteration functionality of the Language API does not, according to the documentation, support the Japanese alphabet.

BTW, it was somewhere in the API docs/examples section of the google
site.
The API talked about how to do the translation.. But did NOT mention
how the transliterated data was getting there.
However below the basic translation was a "+" mark button that
displayed a romaji (English character set) transliteration from the
kanji.
I was stunned to see this because I know that it was not supported by
google before.

I agree.. I don't see it in the documentation either.. HOWEVER.. I
SAW an example of it being done.. It was right there in front of
me... I was stunned.. So I'm trying to track that down again.

HEY !!! Just found it !!!

If you go to the following URL: http://translate.google.com/#en|ja|good%20morning

Translating from English to Japanese.. Under the translation you will
see a line:
English to Japanese translation + Show romanization

The "Show romanization" performs a transliteration from kanji to roman
characters.
What I am trying to figure out now is how to access the API that
performs this step...

Unfortunately, translate.google.com doesn't really use the same API that the rest of us can. It is, after all, Google's property. They reserve a few stunts for themselves. Sorry!
