is google translate case-sensitive?

When I use google translate (with the API or directly), it seem that
the translation is case sensitive:
For example, the translation if french of "How are you doing?" is
completely wrong ("comment fais-tu?") while the translation of "how
are you doing?" is correct ("
comment vas-tu?").

In fact, this happens with a lot of simple sentences (try "This cat is
nice" vs "this cat is nice") and seems to be the case in spanish too
(with "How are you doing?")!

Am I missing something? Is everything supposed to be lowercase before
sending for translation?

Hey Chris --

This does seem like an issue. Could you add this to our issue

As an update, the API is case-sensitive.  Correct capitalization should be beneficial to the translation, though it isn't in this case.

The same issue happens in tamil words also..
For Example:  I given the word 'passion' as translate word.. it will give the correctly translate the word 'ஆர்வம்'.
But i change the first letter or last letter mean, like 'Passion' or 'passioN'.. it will show wrongly.. the result is 'பேஷன்'. but the passion is a same word in english.

This issue is inherent in the way machine translation works. Short sentences and single words are exceptionally difficult for the matrix to translate accurately. And introducing capitalization differences just adds another variable. So I don't know that the team will be able to fix this issue.

That said, I would suggest that you post the issue to the Google Translate Developer's Forum. I can't say it has a tremendous chance of getting a response, but it has probably a better chance of being seen by the development team than this group.
