i'm a bit confused by the google attribute guidelines.

when implementing a google translate on a site, when and how is google
attribution required / expected / best done ?

next to / near to the "translate this" element or on the translated
page ?
if on the translated page, where ? at the top or at the bottom of the
translated text?

the terms at http://code.google.com/apis/ajaxlanguage/terms.html only
refer to search results. making the analogy to translation, they seem
to suggest that attributing after translation is enough.

am i right?

Hey Raakvlak --

If there's a box for users to enter data for translation, we request
the attribution next to that box (like search boxes). If there's no
text entry area but there is a "Translate this" button, attribution
should go there. Otherwise, attribution is only necessary near the
translated text.

Thanks,
Ben

Ben, thanks.

The idea is to have a "translate to" followed by a popup to select the
language

attribution at the end of the translated text, is that ok?

Ben,

The website I'm developing may have more than one, in some cases many,
pieces of translated text per page. I'm assuming (hoping!) that I
don't have to do attribution by each piece, but that one prominent
attribution per page is sufficient. It is clear from the page context
what is translated and what isn't.

Does this approach sound OK to you?

Thanks in advance,

Jim Renkel

Yes, that is good. And you can use this for reference:

Correct, you do not need to put "Powered by Google" everywhere on your
page, you only need to use it once :)

Ben,

I finally got my web-site up and running. Could you look at it and
verify that it is OK on attribution?

It's at http://twxlate.com. It's a mash-up of twitter and Google
translation that essentially allows users to tweet in the 40+
languages supported by Google translate.

I would also appreciate any comments that you have on the site.

Thanks in advance,

Jim Renkel
