The answer to this question depends very much on what you're trying to do. The Web Search (AJAX) API offers more queries per day but has been deprecated and will be discontinued no later than May 2014. The Custom Search API (CSAPI) will continue to work but offers only 100 free queries per day, and only up to 10,000 queries per day if you activate billing.
I probably wouldn't build any new apps on the Web Search API.

I am trying to build a GWT application that requires the integration of a generic search api to query and return the results. I came across the google search api and something called the custom search. Can someone point me to the right documentation with samples that will provide me api to be integrated with a GWT app to return generic search results?
