Google AJAX Feed API limits

I am thinking of using the Google AJAX Feed API. However I need the
user to be able to make a large amount of API calls within a 24 hour
timespan, this could be as much as 15000 API requests. I am thinking
of smart ways to reduce this amount, but this is worst case.

So my question is what are the limits (if any) of the AJAX Feed API in
terms of api calls per user per time period?

Thanks in advance!

Although there is no hard limit on the number of queries that you can pass in a 24-hr period, there is a prohibition of using applications which submit automated queries to the API. Since I assume that your users won't just sit there and refresh every 5 or 6 seconds, this will be something you'll want to look into. Further, if you're going to make your 15K requests in rapid succession, you're going to run into the soft throttling mechanisms designed to prevent abuse. And just so that you are aware, the only guideline provided in the documentation re: how quickly the Feeds API v1 will refresh its cache of a feed is that it will happen no more than once every 60 minutes, but it can be as infrequently as once every 5 or 6 hours. So there's no need to re-request the same feed every 5 or 6 secs.

Thank you for your reply Jeremy,

With the information about the refresh time of a feed the API is not
suited for my type application. So I will go look for an alternative.

Thanks again!

Hello,

Perhaps the experimental Feed API v2 with Push would suit your needs:
http://code.google.com/apis/feed/push/

It will allow visitors to your pages to subscribe to a PubSubHubbub
enabled feed and receive new items pushed to their browser within
seconds. If you're interested in trying it out, please fill out the
form at the above link requesting access, and then shoot me an email
directly.

Cheers,
Adam
