to Google AJAX APIs
Good Afternoon,

Having some weirdness with the AJAX Search API.

I can't get it to return results for me at all, but only for a certain
website. When I go to google.com and search for "site:mysite.com my
search term" I get all the results I expect to get.

However, none of those results are returned by the AJAX Search API. I
am building this search for a relatively new website (2 weeks old),
would that have something to do with this? I have added a sitemap and
everything to webmaster tools, so I know Google is crawling the site.

I've tried the exact same code with another website I run and it works
just fine, I get all the results I would expect, it's just not working
for this new site.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks!
Tyler

As discussed in the IRC channel earlier today, this is a known issue with the API, where the API does not always return the same results as a standard google.com search. The problem is exacerbated by the use of search operators such as site: . The workaround is to set up a Custom Search Engine (CSE) that's restricted to your site and then restrict the Search API to your CSE.
