Google Map Search Release Schedule?

I realise this may equate to asking "how long is a piece of string" but
I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea (a ballpark figure) as
to the release date of version 1.0 of the Map search API.

I am currently trying to get local search results for the UK but the
official word seems to be that locations outside the US will not be
supported until version 1.0

Any word from google?

Right now, only US local search results are supported. International
support is something a few others have requested as well:

But unfortunately, we don't have a specific timeline for when
additional geos will be available.
