You're going to have to write Javascript to pull the query string or hash and grab and process parameters.

Before you do that, though, you should be aware that the API's TOS dictate that search cannot be the only - or even the primary - content of a site. I may not be a legal expert, but I'm pretty sure that your site would be in violation of that term. You may want to rethink your strategy.

Thank you, I have found nothing in API's TOS.. Where exactly can you
read that?

Section 1.4. Read the second paragraph and the first bullet point under it.

I'd like Adam Feldman to weigh in, but I believe that restriction applied to the old (now deprecated) web search API, but doesn't apply to the new CSE API, which are instead governed by these terms:

  http://code.google.com/apis/customsearch/api_terms.html

Sorry that's still a little confusing as we're in the midst of an ongoing cleanup process moving over to the new API surfaces.

To avoid confusion, DeWitt is correct. The new API's TOS don't have that restriction. However, the site in question, linked below, is utilizing the deprecated API, loaded via the JSAPI. In fact, the entire page is, essentially, a CustomSearchControl. View the source, starting on line 30.

Out of curiosity, would point 2.4a not just about bankrupt anyone who
is using it as in the provided demo URL where it searches as you type?
Would one not get charged for each and every search that is done while
typing?

2.4 Fees.
The CS API may be provided to you without any free usage quota at all.
You may be charged for each successful request you make through the CS
API. The usage charges for the CS API ("Usage Charges") can be found
at http://code.google.com/apis/customsearch/v1/overview.html#Pricing.

With the new CSAPI, the fees could certainly have that affect for many small sites, especially if you use a search-as-you-type or autocomplete app. But the site in question uses the Web Search API (formerly known as the AJAX Search API) site restricted to a CSE. With that API, there are no explicit limits on the number of requests which can be submitted; so as long as the throttling mechanisms are not triggered, the site owner should be fine. But again, the Web Search API was not designed to be utilized as the primary content of a site and is therefore restricted, legally if not technically, against being used as such.

As DeWitt pointed out, there are options. You could migrate to the Custom Search API, which does not have the restriction against using Google results as your primary content. But it also has a 100 query/day limit. If you're going to exceed that amount of traffic, you'll have to enable billing. Which can get you up to 10,000 queries per day, but you have to pay for it. You could check into the Bing API. Yahoo! also offers an API, but I can't say that I would recommend it at this time for a variety of reasons (which I won't go into here).

How can one find out the cost of 10,000 queries per day?

Thanks,

Out of curiosity, why would you ever bother building "another google
search page" that is without any obvious added value ?

Look at the bottom of this page:

Rates are currently $5/1000 queries, up to 10,000 queries. So you could, as a maximum, incur a charge of $50/day.

In other words, ten thousand daily droplets of that medicine would
cost $1,500/month. ;?)

$1550 if the month is 31 days long. Only $1400 in February, though. Unless it's leap year, in which case February will be $1450. Are you confused yet? :D

IIUC:
The "jsapi" module and the "CustomSearchControl" object and methods
are currently supported -- NOT deprecated -- in use with "Custom
Search Element" implementations, as part of the current Custom Search
product. Please refer to current Custom Search Element documentation:

http://code.google.com/apis/customsearch/docs/js/cselement-devguide.html

http://code.google.com/apis/customsearch/docs/js/cselement-reference.html

IIUC:

For Custom Search, there is NO charge to use the Custom Search Element
(CustomSearchControl) on a free CSE.

Such usage is NOT deprecated (see my previous reply in this thread).
