App Measurement included in SDK

Hello,

Since version 7.42.0 the AdMob iOS SDK includes "App Measurement" and the release notes (https://developers.google.com/admob/ios/rel-notes) say:
"Google Mobile Ads SDK now depends on App Measurement. You must include the App Measurement framework and dependencies"

What exactly does "App Measurement" do? Is this a part of Google Analytics/Firebase for tracking and analytics purposes? Actually I want to avoid using any analytics tools to avoid getting in trouble with the strict EU privacy laws (GDPR). But do I understand it correctly that you have to use it now? Is there any way to avoid using the "app measurement" framework and give my users more privacy? Or does Google now force developers to use it? And do I have to connect it to a Google Analytics/Firebase account?

Hello there,

Thanks for reaching out to us. AppMeasurement is  a dependency for Mobile Ads SDK and is used for internal purposes only. There is no way to skip this dependency and you can go through all of the dependencies here. 

And do I have to connect it to a Google Analytics/Firebase account?

You do not need to setup anything further as this is for internal purposes only.
