In the iOS NYT Games app, there's a full-screen AdMob ad shown before entering certain puzzles. Screenshot attached. It looks like a video with:
  • Small "ADVERTISEMENT" label at the top
  • Short countdown
  • Text button "Continue to Wordle" in the app's font style with their own custom button to dismiss it
There's also the standard AdMob info button ("Ad served by Google / Why this ad?").

I'm trying to figure out what AdMob format this is. Is this...

  • A standard interstitial?
  • An App open ad?
  • A template-based full-screen ad?
  • Some other AdMob format available in the iOS SDK?
I want to know whether this format is accessible to regular publishers through the Google Mobile Ads SDK, so I can test it in my own apps. It seems like

What kind of AdMob ad is this.jpg

Thanks!

Hi,

Thank you for contacting the Mobile Ads SDK Support team.

I understand you are interested in replicating the full-screen ad format used in the iOS NYT Games app.

Based on the screenshot and description provided, this appears to be a Custom Native ad served through Google Ad Manager (GAM). It is not a standard AdMob Interstitial or App Open ad.

Here are the key details regarding this format:

  • Flexibility: GAM Custom Native ads allow publishers to define their own ad layout and render assets in any style, including full-screen presentations with custom buttons or UI elements.
  • Implementation: The Google Mobile Ads SDK provides the ad assets, but the app itself is responsible for rendering them using its own custom view.

You can find more technical details in our documentation on Custom Native Ads

I hope this clarifies the format for you. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,
