Problem Open Ads - freeze screen without ads

Sometimes it happens that when I open my app it tries to open open ads without showing the advertisement. the screen goes to fullscreen blocking all controls and freezing the screen. Pressing back takes you back to controlling the app outside the fullscreen. I tried to insert logs into the callbacks and onAdShowedFullScreenContent () is called so appOpenAd! = Null. It is creating a lot of problems for me because users say that the app crashes, when in reality everything is due to the OPEN ADS that sometimes does not load. I've noticed this happens when I close apps from the active apps list and then open it immediately. I can send a screen or a video if you want.

Hi Pietro,

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. First let me stated that the App Open Ads is still in Beta. And as such might still have issues with the implementation. That being said, I would ask if you can share via "Reply to author" with a simple sample app showing your code implementation. As well as steps to reproduce this issue.

Also have you tested with Test Ids to make sure that your implementation was working before pushing it to your live app? As the fact that you are getting a blank screen would seem to indicate that no ads are being served for that functionality.

Thanks for the reply. 

I also tested with test ads and I realized that the screen freeze problem was due to open ads precisely because the Test Ads label remained on the screen without showing any ads. 

I implemented the code perfectly following the guide here: https://developers.google.com/admob/android/app-open-ads

This is the correct loading of the adv.

This is the problematic loading of Open Ads, the app went to me in fullscreen without showing any advertisements. All controls are locked. I have to click the back button to unlock the screen.

Hi Pietro,

Thank you for the screenshots, that helps to explain more of what you are seeing. I can that that from the first you are showing the ad properly but no ad. Where as second, you are showing ad but it is not displaying properly. If you can share via "Reply to author" button with the following items:

• A simple sample app with the AppOpenAds  included.
• Any Charles logs showing the ads being called.

Would seem to be more of an issue with the ads and serving, so we will want to look at that for you.

I tried to create a blank app with Open Ads.

Everything works fine.

Could it be some library that has problems with Open Ads?

The implemented code is exactly the same in both my production app and the empty test app.

Hi Pietro,

I work with William and will assist you. It may be a build issue with your app, although we haven't heard of such a thing. Unfortunately we don't have a way of checking against every scenario. If you find a specific issue with other libraries, could you send us a minimally modified sample app based on our guide to app open ads that reliably replicates this issue?

Hello Aryeh,

I am facing the exact same issue as mentioned by Pietro. Following are the steps that have consistently reproduced the issue for me.

1. Open the app

2. Press home button to push the app to background

3. After about 2 hours, re-open the app from the recents (the app is not killed during this time frame)

4. Blank/Transparent AppOpen ad is displayed now

I tried your test case on my end (waited at least 2 hours), and I didn't encounter the issue. Instead, the ad shows perfectly fine. With that, could you kindly provide to us provide a Charles log (see instruction here) capturing the ad request? This will greatly help us as it it will enable us to further check the actual ad that you're receiving on your end. Kindly share it to us via reply privately to author option.
