I've set log statements and debugging break points in my AdListener but I've noticed its not getting called when an AdMob ad is being clicked (onPresentScreen, onLeaveApplication nor onDismissScreen). onReceivedAd is being called and is printing my log statement / hitting break points, so it seems like its just an issue with the life cycle methods associated with post click activities.

I've tried with bot AdMob ads and AdWords/Sense backfills and neither one are making the callbacks. Anyone having luck with that can at least confirm that i'm doing something wrong?

#onPresentScreen used to get called reliably until the 1-FEB-2012.
Since then it still gets called but not reliably, I'm guessing about a
50% hit rate but I have no way to really tell anymore. This is not to
do with the SDK as (in my app at least) the version of the SDK has not
changed. This indicates that some behaviour on the Admob server end
that is notifying the SDK has changed.

For January the ratio between clicks recorded by the SDK and clicks
recorded by the publisher side were running at about 67% (down from
89% from Jun-Dec 2011). I raised the fall in the ratio to 67% with
Admob support and curiously while the number of clicks recorded by
publisher has increased, the number of clicks recorded by the SDK has
fallen such that the ratio is now 160%. Ie publisher is reporting 60%
more clicks than is now recorded on the devices.

But here's the rub. Even though all of the above is true and there is
clear documentation and understanding of the problem within Admob,
this post will certainly be censored because it will be deemed to be
publisher and not SDK related. And so none of you will realise that
you're all in the same boat and be able to co-ordinate a solution. So
the problem will continue to fester.
