So apparently Google Mobile Ads SDK version 20.0.0 is planned for early 2021.  Is there a beta version of the new SDK we can try out?

Hello

yes it would be very nice to test out the new functions also for interstitial ads with a beta version describing also how to use interstitial ads the new way with the mentioned callback in the email from admob

So we could make "early" changes to our apps and not on the same day when 20 is released because it takes a lot of time to implement the new code if some developers have more than one app

Regards,

Frank

It seems a bit odd to provide a detailed migration guide (see snippet below from email sent to developers) without giving the developer the chance to actually follow the migration guide (using an alpha or beta), doesn't it?  Any reply on this one?

Hello Admob Team

like Mike mentioned, the sentence in "red" says that we have to to it "before" the new SDK is released or interstitial ads. So we need at least something to work this like an alpha or beta version before the release
to have a change to change the apps.  The only thing that is described yet are adaptive banner ads.

Also a more detailed explanation about interstitial ads would be helpful. How to use this : interstitialAd.load(Context, String, AdRequest, InterstitialAdLoadCallback)
I would think that this is like rewaded ads or open ads but a short new example is very helpful.   InterstitialAdLoadCallback does not exist in 19.5.0 so we cannot do anything

You should extend and give some more time to prepair for developers during the lockdown

Unless I'm very much mistaken, existing v19.5.0 won't suddenly stop working when v20 is released, so there is no panic.  But I'm just impatient to get my code ready for the transition as soon as possible, and it's just a bit frustrating when we are told of forthcoming changes, with a migration guide, but without being able to take any action right now.

Hey Mike,
If you have an account manager please reach out to them regarding a beta of the SDK. Many of the API changes will be shipping soon.  Thanks.

Jon... no account manager, it's just me trying to do the best I can and get ahead of any upcoming SDK changes.

Hi

what does this mean. It is important for me too. Will you give us the chance to update our apps before the official 20 comes out or not ?

I mean this is really the worst solution not to be able to change the code before the 20 comes out to insure that everything would work fluently. Also an example with  the new sdk regarding the new interstitial functions too with the new callback. The migration guide has no guide about this only a remark

So getting a beta version to work with (also for production) would be very helpful. I also do not have an account manager anymore since over 2 -3 years.

Regards

Frank

I mean, it seems pretty standard to have easy access to betas and even alphas with other libraries without needing to have an account manager... take just one example: https://developer.android.com/jetpack/androidx/releases/work#2.5.0-beta01

Hi

yes "normally" you are right for jetpack libraries, material etc. etc. but i have never seen a beta for com.google.firebase:firebase-ads or com.google.android.gms:play-services-ads.   yet during the last years.

So i hope also to get an "concrete" answer here to know what will happen. Hopefully a we will get a beta with instructions like App open ads beta early enough and not at the release date.

19.5 is useless because the new callback for interstitial for example InterstitialAd.load(Context, String, AdRequest, InterstitialAdLoadCallback is unkown in 19.5

Hi

any answer to this from the admob team ??

- So interstit ads etc. are still working in 19.5.0. when 20 is released and all ads are still serving ??? That means we have time to change our code and make everything compatible to v20 ?

If not we need access to a beta version. The migration guide is very useless without having access to the new version.

For example: I cannot change 20 ore more apps in 1 day when v 20 is released. So please give give us time to make our apps ready

Hi
sorry sometimes i do not know what i should think here... sometimes you answer, sometimes you do not answer or in other cases you do not give an concrete answer in almost 90 % ...Is this really your google policy to behave like this ??
I feel sometimes more and more strange if nobody wants to answer even simple questions.

Hi Frank,

Apologies for the delayed response, this thread got lost in our internal ticket system.

The new versions are out now, and you've probably figured out already that you can still use v19.x on Android and v7.x on iOS and still get ads. The idea of the early announcements was to give users a heads up about what was coming, so that you could allocate some time in your planning processes (quarterly or sprints) to hopefully drive faster adoption of the newer SDKs.

We are aware it takes time to migrate, and even then it takes users time to update your apps. We currently don't have any plans to stop serving ads to the latest v19.x and v7.x SDKs. But if/when we deprecate those or future SDKs going forward, we will a) make it very clear what the timelines are, and b) provide ample time to migrate.

Thanks,
Eric, Mobile Ads SDK Team
