Dear Google Mobile Ads SDK Team,

Thank you for your continued support.

We are considering implementing the App Open Ads feature as described in the following link:
https://developers.google.com/admob/android/app-open?hl=ja

We first followed the steps and created sample code as instructed. However, when displaying the App Open Ad in a fixed landscape orientation, the ad appears cropped on a Pixel 6a device, as shown in the attached image.

AppOpenAd_Pixel6a.png

Is any additional adjustment or countermeasure required when displaying App Open Ads in landscape mode?

The SDK version is as follows:
'com.google.android.gms:play-services-ads:24.7.0'

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting Mobile Ads SDK Support team.

Starting with SDK version 24.0.0, the deprecated orientation-specific APIs for AppOpenAd have been removed. This means that App Open Ads no longer automatically adjust to orientation changes once the ad is loaded.
If your app supports multiple orientations and you rotates the device while an App Open Ad is being displayed, the current ad instance will not resize or re-render to match the new orientation.
Recommended Implementation:

  • Load and show the App Open Ad in the current orientation.
  • If the orientation changes, and request a new App Open Ad suited for the new orientation.

This ensures the ad displays properly and meets design/layout requirements for both portrait and landscape modes

Could you kindly provide the app ID and ad unit ID via reply to author option for further investigation.

Thanks,

Hi,

Thank you for getting back to us.

As mentioned in a different thread, App Open Ads no longer automatically adjust to orientation changes once the ad is loaded.

If your app supports multiple orientations and the user rotates the device while an App Open Ad is being displayed, the current ad instance will not resize or re-render to match the new orientation. This is expected behavior.
Recommended Implementation:

  • Load and show the App Open Ad in the current orientation.

  • If the orientation changes, and request a new App Open Ad suited for the new orientation.

This ensures the ad displays properly and meets design/layout requirements for both portrait and landscape modes.

Additionally, we’ve noticed multiple threads related to this issue, please keep all discussions within a single thread to avoid confusion.

Thanks,

Thank you very much.

However, in the situation we are currently checking, the device remains fixed in landscape orientation without any screen rotation, and the App Open Ads is loaded after onResume, at which point the screen layout has already been finalized.
There is no screen rotation or layout change after onResume.

Also, judging from the screenshot we initially attached, it appears that a landscape-format ad is being loaded.
The issue we are reporting is that on the Pixel 6a, part of the right side of the ad — including the “Go to app” button — is being cut off.

We also tested the same sample on another device (AQUOS sense7, Android OS 14), and confirmed that no cropping occurs there; the App Open Ads displays normally.

Could this be an Android OS 16 issue?
