Hello, I have released a game few days ago with my device added as a test device to AdMob AdRequest.

for a couple of days I was receiving test ads on my device but now i keep getting real ads.

I added the same test device id to another game i updated today and the same problem remains, it shows real ads not test ads.

what could be the problem? (my games are developed in unity)

Hi there,

If you're referring to the creatives as specified here, it is a new update from the Mobile Ads SDK Team. You will now be able to configure the test device and use your own ad unit Ids that you've created in the AdMob UI. If you correctly added your device as a test device, you will see a Test Ad label on the real ads. You may refer to this guide for more information regarding this new update.

It doesn't show the "Test Ad" label over the real ads for me, I know i added the test device correctly because it was working fine until yesterday and I have not made any apk updates. although it was showing as a full screen test ad and not as a overlaying label.

Hi there,

Can you provide us Charles logs, device logs and screenshots of the issue? Also, were you able to reproduce on an emulator as well? Can you also retry with our sample apps and let us know?

Hi there,

Thanks for sharing the screenshots and adding more details about your issue. For device logs, you would have to open Android Studio while your app is running and capture them. As for Charles, you can look at their documentation on how to capture network from a device. Note that you would have to enable SSL Proxying via Charles when capturing AdRequests from your app.

Hi there,

Thanks for providing more information. Can you provide us complete device logs from Android Studio? And also a sample app for us to debug? Also, make sure to update your Google Play Services version from your Android SDK Manager and try again. Your machine might just be running on an older version. Please check the Play Services version from the Android Studio logs and update to the latest version if it isn't.

Hi there,

I'm using play-services version 11.8 and the test ad label also disappeared in my apps after it was displayed and nothing was changed.

Logcat even doesn't output this anymore (as mentioned in the admob docs):
I/Ads: Use AdRequest.Builder.addTestDevice("33BE2250B43518CCDA7DE426D04EE231")
to get test ads on this device."

So if you haven't already received your id when using an older play-services version you even can't get the device id.

Hi Dominik,

Could you confirm if you are not seeing "Test Ad" label when using the latest Google Mobile Ads SDK for Android? I'm asking because the issue originally reported here is that the "Test Ad" label is missing for Banner Ads that are displayed via the Google Mobile Ads Unity plugin. Please note that the fix for the Google Mobile Ads Unity plugin is already in place but we can't guarantee any definite timelines on the release of the fix.

As long as you are seeing a log message similar to "This request is sent from a test device", then it's safe to assume that you are displaying a test ad on an enabled test device.

That said, I tried displaying test ads using these native Android sample apps on an enabled test device and I verified that the "Test Ad" label appeared in the Ads. I also verified that the logcat message that contains the test device Id, similar in this section, is appearing on my end.

Could you provide to us privately (using Reply privately to author option) your Ad Unit Id/s in question so we can check on our end?

Hi Dominik,

Thank you for getting back to us privately with your code snippets and the Ad Unit Ids in question.

There's nothing out of the ordinary with your code implementation so displaying of test ads on an enabled test device should have worked as expected. That said, I tested your Ad Unit Ids with our BannerExample app and InterstitialExample app and I was able to successfully display test ads (with "Test Ad" label in the top center) from my enabled test device.

Also, the log message "This request is sent from a test device" appeared on my end which confirms that the test ad was successfully displayed on the enabled test device.

Could you test your Ad Unit Ids with our sample apps and see if you can reproduce the missing "Test Ad" label? You just need to change the Ad Unit Id to yours and add the corresponding test device Id in the Ad request.
