Hello,
I'm currently trying to integrate GDPR and ATT on my apps, I have a question.

1) Regarding GDPR prompt, I have this result when I integrate it:

ATT->yes->GDPR->no -> No ads

Is this normal that when user doesn't consent GDPR no ads is displayed? I thought non-personalized ads should displayed at least.
Why no ads are showing? Is this the EEA law or it come from Admob side?

2) What will happen to old apps that has no ATT and no GDPR and still showing admob ads after the EEA law take place in january 2024 ?

Thank you for your help.

Hello, has your iOS app been accepted in the store with the gdpr changes or have you not published it yet?

OK thanks.

Are your steps correct?

First show the ATT and then the GDPR?

Or is it the other way around?

Yes.
First ATT then GDPR,
the other way around seems to also not show ads when user does not consent GDPR.

It is that when the user does not give their consent, it will NOT show ads unless the user touches the magic formula in the options (see other posts to understand).

I was wondering what you showed first because in another post they say that the sequence is this:

The right way:

1. MESSAGE GDPR > approve > IDFA >

2. MESSAGE GDPR > not approve > don't show the message IDFA

Ok thank you, I will implement the right way.
But what happen to app that does not include GDPR after january 2024?
In this article: https://support.google.com/admob/answer/13554116#zippy=%2Cgoogle-certified-cmps
It say " Beginning January 16, 2024, if a partner does not adopt a Google-certified CMP, only limited ads will be eligible to serve on EEA and UK traffic. Traffic from a Google-certified CMP will continue to be eligible for personalized ads, non-personalized ads (NPA), or limited ads."
So users will always see ads even without the GDPR? And there is no way to block ads like now with the GDPR. Seems better for a revenue perspective to me...

Hello Alexandre,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Yes. It is normal that the user will not receive ads if they do not consent even if they agree to the ATT. The following have to be met in order for ads to be served:

Google will serve personalized ads when all of the following criteria are met:

  • The end user grants Google consent to:
    • Store and/or access information on a device (Purpose 1)
    • Create a personalized ads profile (Purposes 3)
    • Select personalized ads (Purposes 4)
  • Legitimate interest (or consent, where a publisher configures their CMP to request it) is established for Google to:
    • Select basic ads (Purpose 2)
    • Measure ad performance (Purpose 7)
    • Apply market research to generate audience insights (Purpose 9)
    • Develop and improve products (Purpose 10)

If the consent requirements for personalized ads are not met, Google will serve non-personalized ads when all of the following criteria are met:

  • The end user grants Google consent to:
    • Store and/or access information on a device (Purpose 1)
  • Legitimate interest (or consent, where a publisher configures their CMP to request it) is established for Google to:
    • Select basic ads (Purpose 2)
    • Measure ad performance (Purpose 7)
    • Apply market research to generate audience insights (Purpose 9)
    • Develop and improve products (Purpose 10)
With regards to your 2nd concern, they will no longer receive ads once the deadline has been met. The old apps need to be updated in order to meet the criteria above.

Hello Test Dvd,

We recommended to some of our users to show the IDFA message first due to the App Store disapproving their apps. You may also show the GDPR first then IDFA if you wish.

Thank you for your reply, I have another questions:

1) Is it possible to show ATT alert first then GDPR without IDFA explainer message?

2) If an european user ask not to track (ATT) then no GDPR should show and no ads show?

Hello,

To answer your inquiry:

1) Is it possible to show ATT alert first then GDPR without IDFA explainer message?
  • If you plan to use the UMP SDK to handle Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) requirements, make sure you've created, configured, and published your IDFA explainer message in the AdMob UI. The UMP SDK handles this.
2) If an european user ask not to track (ATT) then no GDPR should show and no ads show?
  • Yes. That is correct.
