Hi,

I would like to know what position is considered best for a static ad banner for iPhone X.  For example should it be positioned at the very bottom of the screen, ie overlapping with the new "home button", or should it be floating above the home button in the region that Apple calls the "safe area"?

Thank you very much.

Hi Rich,

Generally speaking, it should depend on your application on where you would want to position your Banner Ads. Just be mindful of our Implementation Guidelines, as well as our Recommended and Discouraged implementations for Banner Ads.

Hi Joshua,

I was just about to ask the same question as Rich asked. I'm sure this topic is extremely important for all iOS developers who use AdMob.

The virtual "Home Button" of the new iPhone X is exactly there where 99% of iOS apps have their AdMob banner implemented. That's a huge problem for us.

Unfortunately AdMob's existing Implementation Guidelines don't really answer our question. Could you please be more specific and clarify for all developers which AdMob implementation exactly would be allowed on the iPhone X? Does it has to be somewhere in Apple's "Safe Area" which is specified here or can it still be at the very bottom like 99% of the apps have implemented it now? That's all we want to know.

We all want to implement AdMob according your guidelines but that is not possible if you don't clarify this. I'm already afraid that thousands of developers will receive policy warnings from AdMob because they haven't implemented it correctly for the new iPhone X. Google should really clarify the suggested implementation for iPhone X with the new virtual "home button" which is exactly there where 99% of AdMob banner ads in iOS apps are...

Thank you so much!

Best,
Martin

Hi Martin and Rich,

Thanks for the timely question. We are actually tackling this topic within our team at the moment. There will be a blog post out shortly and the samples will also be updated to show best practices for placing banners and native ads according to Apples design guidelines for the iPhone X.

That said, the short answer is we absolutely recommend adhering to Apples design guidelines and instead of placing banners, etc at the edges of the screen, place them at the edges of the safe area of the screen.

Keep an eye out for additional updates on the iPhone X in the coming weeks,

Best,

Sam

Hello all,
Was there ever a blog post published about this?
Was it determined whether it is improper to place ads along the very bottom of the iPhone X, where the rounded corners cause some of the ad to be clipped?
Does it affect ad performance?

Thanks!

Hi Cameron,

There was a blog post and linked guide that covered the topic of iPhone X ad placement.
