The Open Measurement (OM) SDK is the standard and recommended method for recording reliable Active View–style metrics. For custom native ads, integrating the OM SDK is essentially required to track true Active View, as the Google Mobile Ads SDK does not track this automatically unless you integrate the measurement yourself.
We recommend referring to the "Display-type custom native ad formats and Open Measurement" document for guidance. The integration requirements vary based on your ad creative:
For custom native ads without a video asset: You will be responsible for calling the Open Measurement APIs yourself.
For custom native ads with a video asset: You do not need to follow the integration guide, as the Mobile Ads SDK will track the viewability of the video asset on your behalf.
